The slight breeze that blew through the dining room window and fluttered the curtains, crossed the room to where the quilter sat in front of a quilting frame, deftly stitching the finishing touches on a quilt left for her to hand-quilt. She would hand-quilt many and her granddaughter loved to visit to explore the latest quilt stretched on the frame.
Our featured quilter is a fourth-generation quilter and those memories of her grandmother sitting in front of the quilt frame transport her back to her first quilt. Her mom embroidered butterflies, she pieced the top together and her grandmother hand quilted it. She asked her grandmother if the quilt could have a ruffle binding and Grandmother said she had never seen a quilt with a ruffle in the binding. Nevertheless, her grandmother lovingly stitched a ruffle on the quilt.
Blue is our featured quilter’s favorite color and she says, “A person can never have enough blue!” even though she feels her fabric stash is too large. Although she doesn’t have a favorite block, preferring instead to try something different with every quilt, she jokingly says she can relate to a Crazy Quilt.
She also enjoys knitting and sometimes feels challenged by paper piecing. Having recently taken a beginning paper piecing class, she’s interesting in trying more challenging designs. The camaraderie of our guild and the friendships she has developed keep her involved in our guild.
