Our featured quilter was drawn to quilting after visiting the San Juan Quilters Guild quilt show in the late 80s.
“I was tired of making clothing. When I saw a quilt, I thought, Look! No zipper, no set-in sleeves and I can fit a bed.”
She took a class in the spring of 1990 with Jackie Robinson and she “never looked back”.
“I enjoy everything about quilting. I love designing, choosing fabrics, but my first love is applique and it’s many techniques. She says she also loves machine quilting with “Bernina and Sweet 16.”
“There have been so many disasters I don’t where to begin. Like the time I was finishing
machine quilting a large quilt and discovered I had turned a very small block 90 degrees off! I screamed so
loud that my husband thought that I had sewn my finger! I didn’t fix it! At the quilt show I put a little
sign on the quilt that said “There is a mistake in this quilt. Can you find it?” It got a lot of attention!”
She realized her favorite color is red–from dark brown red to double pinks. She uses it as the main color as well as many accent colors and shades.
“What I love most is sharing the JOY of quilting with others.”
